Parcel theft from lobbies and postrooms is one of the most common complaints from East Village residents. Most buildings have postrooms, but not all deliveries make it there.

How it happens

  • Couriers sometimes leave parcels in the lobby rather than using the postroom
  • “Safe place” instructions can result in parcels being left visible to passers-by
  • Tailgating means non-residents can sometimes access lobbies

How to reduce the risk

For deliveries:

  • Use “deliver to postroom” or “leave with concierge” instructions
  • Set up delivery instructions on Royal Mail, Amazon, DPD, etc. to never leave parcels unattended
  • Use Amazon Locker at Stratford or the parcel lockers at Westfield

For your building:

  • Don’t let strangers tailgate through the main entrance
  • Report any propped-open lobby doors to concierge

If your parcel is stolen

  1. Report to the retailer — most will resend or refund
  2. Report to the courier — they may have photo evidence of where it was left
  3. Report to police via 101 or online — get a crime reference number for insurance
  4. Report to concierge — they can check CCTV footage

GetLiving postrooms

Most GetLiving buildings have staffed postrooms during working hours. If your concierge accepts a parcel, you’ll get an email notification. Ask your concierge about their procedure.
