Who Do I Call?
Emergency? Always call 999 first.

Building Issues — Repairs & Maintenance
Who you call depends on who manages your building.

Hot Water & Heating
East London Energy
📞 0800 059 9059
East Village uses a district heating network — there is no individual gas boiler in your flat. Your landlord cannot switch supplier.
Use for: No hot water, no heating, heating bills, meter queries.
If 3 or more flats on your floor or in your building are affected, report it as a communal issue — it gets a faster response.
Communal Areas & Estate
East Village Management / Security
Contact via the concierge desk or through the GetLiving app.
Use for: Communal cleaning, communal lighting, gardens, estate-wide problems, gate issues, security concerns.
For urgent estate issues out of hours, the concierge can contact security directly.
Electricity
Contact your electricity supplier — check your bill, smart meter, or MyAccount portal for contact details.
Use for: Power cuts (not communal), billing issues, smart meter problems.
For a power cut affecting multiple buildings, check the National Grid outage map before calling.
Gas Leak
📞 0800 111 999 — National Gas Emergency (24/7, free)
Do not use light switches, door bells, or any electrical device. Do not smoke or use a naked flame. Get out of the building and call from outside or a neighbour’s home.
Crime (Non-Emergency)
Metropolitan Police
📞 101 or met.police.uk
Use for: Reporting crime after the fact, suspicious activity, anti-social behaviour.
Always get a crime reference number — you’ll need it for insurance claims.
For anonymous intelligence: Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 (24/7, free, anonymous).
Council Issues
Newham Council
📞 020 8430 2000 or newham.gov.uk
Use for: Fly-tipping, street lighting, public roads and pavements, bins and recycling, environmental health.
Use the “Report It” tool on newham.gov.uk for most issues — it’s the fastest route. Note that the Olympic Park areas may fall under LLDC (London Legacy Development Corporation) rather than Newham — check the boundary if you’re unsure.
Medical (Non-Emergency)
NHS 111 or your GP
📞 111 or nhs.uk
Use for: Medical advice, urgent GP appointments outside hours, prescription queries.
Stratford Urgent Treatment Centre (inside Stratford Centre shopping centre) is walk-in for minor injuries and illness — no appointment needed.
Parcel Issues
Contact the retailer first, then the courier.
Use for: Missing or stolen parcels, wrong-address deliveries.
- Report to the retailer — most will resend or refund without needing police involvement
- Then report to the courier and get a reference number
- If the parcel was stolen, report to the police on 101 to get a crime reference number for insurance purposes
Pest Control
Inside your flat or communal areas: GetLiving app or 0808 164 4744
On public roads or green spaces: Newham Council — newham.gov.uk
Use for: Mice, rats, bed bugs, insects.
General tips: Always get a reference number. Take photos of issues. Follow up in writing. Check the East Village Connect WhatsApp group — someone may have already reported the same problem.
